Developing Your “Successful Self”

“Talent is cheaper than table salt. What separates the talented individual from the successful one is a lot of hard work.”   Stephen King

“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination, and hard work.”  Colin Powell

You all know one of my favorite sayings is that ……. life will change you…. but you get to decide how. My time as a model in NYC was the single most pivotal time in my life and set me on the path to real success, joy and personal fulfillment. I decided to allow the entertainment industry experience change me by allowing me to develop what I call my “successful self”. You see, we all have different facets of our personality. We have our “family self”, our “friend self”, our “work self”, etc. Each of these areas of our lives require certain characteristics and personality traits and we develop them almost automatically but so many people don’t realize that they must create a “successful self” in order to actualize success in our lives. We need to understand that a poised, professional, sophisticated self is the master of all other selves we have.

Each of us must begin now to develop the characteristics of a successful person in order to function in a successful way. The wonderful thing about developing your successful self is that you can do it as easily as you have developed all the other sides of your personality. The one characteristic that you must develop is the ability to work hard. You simply need to decide to work hard and never waiver. Things really begin to change!! The entertainment industry and every other industry requires a keen commitment to developing a strong work ethic that is based on working hard and staying focused. So many things can distract you…….if you let them. You’re in control. It’s that simple. Start today!

Hard work develops self-confidence. When we work hard at something our minds develop a legitimate perception of value and worth. Remember YOU were born for a PURPOSE and finding your purpose is the greatest task you will undertake in your life because it will ultimately BE your life! But without a strong work ethic you won’t be able to reach your goals if you don’t focus and stay the course. Our next blog will give you practical tips on doing just that! Check back next week!
